How Music Affects Your Poker Game :
J.Reider
Many researchers have dealt with the question of human behavior and its affects on human intelligence. Different animal species were studied to make a clear parallel to humans in order to explain some mysterious brain functions, part of which were left unresolved till this day. One of such researchers was Ivan Pavlov, who studied dogs and trained them to respond in a certain way to a particular stimulus. He promoted the idea of controlled behavior in animals, but because of many similarities between animals and humans, this theory reflected on human brain as well. How can we connect this theory to poker game? Well, for instance, we can address music as a particular stimulus, which projects specific behavior in player's performance during the game of poker. We can call such powerful influence music therapy or classical music phenomenon or to put it in simple words cause and affect connection.
Have you ever noticed the amount of various musical devices surrounding poker players practically everywhere, in land based casinos inside private poker rooms, in online poker rooms or during live tournaments? It is not a coincidence; on the contrary, there is a clear reason for this trend – music expresses a powerful instrument and drives gaming skills into new and unexplored levels. Not only music became an acceptable device widely employed in psychology, education and many other fields, but also a tool broadly implemented into gaming industry of different betting games or recreation activity. Poker players simply place a safer bet while they enjoy beautiful songs by their favorite singer.
Can we actually recognize the influence of music on poker game whether it happens online or in a live casino? Well, the secret behind successful music therapy is the ability to change the mood of the player at any given time period. Certain type of music can bring happy emotions and raise your blood pressure to keep you awake and concentrated as oppose to other rhythms, which can awake negative feelings to make you aggressive towards your environment or worse. Consequently, your emotional state will influence your gaming performance and result in explicit consequences.
Considering the above facts, we can assume that peaceful melodies suggest higher level of concentration in poker room and help to prevent external disruptions. Poker players who listen to Beethoven or Bach will concentrate on the game and make correct strategic decisions. As oppose to peaceful melodies, beats loaded with heavy luggage or negative energies will motivate aggressive behavior. Aggression leads to rage and rage leads to emotional instability, what is specifically bad during the poker game.
Our science cannot stand still considering the pace of our current lives and I am sure that more efficient researches will be made in the future to improve the quality of the gaming industry. For now, all we have is hypotheses and research questions, but that my friends, is the place where all action begins. Fixed stimulus makes animals behave in certain way as well as it motivates specific result in human brain, so why not considering music as some magic drive for future reference?
